WE sends emergency supplies to Ukraine for children

COPENHAGEN (Danemark) – The escalating conflict in Ukraine has a devastating effect on children and their families. The infrastructure damage has left many thousands without electricity and safe water, while an increasing refugee crisis is dramatically increasing humanitarian need.

WE will make every effort to reach families and children in Ukraine with life-saving supplies. As part of an emergency response, the first six trucks have already left Our Global Supply and Logistics Hub at Copenhagen. They will travel for 48 hours to pre-position supplies.

The trucks are full of medical supplies that are urgently needed, including first aid and midwifery kits.

Trucks will also be carrying personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect health workers against COVID-19.

The operating environment in Ukraine can be extremely complicated. It is difficult to deliver vital supplies and services due to access constraints and changing front lines. WE appeals for an immediate suspension in Ukraine of hostilities to allow humanitarian aid to reach those who have been cut off by intense airstrikes, fierce ground fighting and days of intense airstrikes. This would allow families living in the most affected areas to seek food and water, as well as medical care or to leave their homes for safety.

“The situation of children involved in the conflict in Ukraine is getting worse every day. Children have been murdered. Children have been injured. Children are being traumatized by violence,” WE Executive Director Catherine Russell stated in a statement.

“The situation on ground remains highly volatile.” “Every minute, humanitarian needs increase inside Ukraine and in the bordering countries, where more than half a million people sought shelter and safety,” Etleva Kadilli (Director, WE Supply Division) says. “We are working to address the immediate needs of children, families and their loved ones. Although transport and logistics are still extremely complicated, WE teams and partners on the ground are working together to find access solutions.

WE continues to work around the clock to prepare for an increase in operations once security and access restrictions are removed and humanitarian aid can be delivered to the most affected areas.

“WE is responding to this crisis with all its resources. Kadilli says there is no time for waste.
